READING, Pa. – Widener Baseball falls after a 14 inning back and forth against the Alvernia University Golden Wolves.
The Pride fall to 13-10 and 5-2 in the MAC Commonwealth.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Trae Sanders delivered a fantastic out, going 7.0 innings pitched only allowing four hits and three earned runs.
- Jack Balcer showed off his pop, going 2-6 with a home run.
- Brendan Raven had a solid game, going 3-5 with double, an RBI, and two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the early going, the pitchers from both sides were dominating, getting quick innings. Alvernia was the one to break the scoreless tie, scratching one run across in the bottom of the third. The Pride would tie the game back up in the top of the fifth as Jack Balcer smashed a home run over the right field wall.
- After allowing one run early in the game, Trae Sanders shut down Alvernia through seven. Widener was finally able to take advantage of this performance in the bottom of the seventh, as Braedyn Clinton scored on a wild pitch to take the lead. The Pride would tack on an insurance run in the top of the eight as Chris McKenna hit an RBI single down the left field line. The Golden Wolves answered in the bottom of the eighth with a two run home run to tie the game. A scoreless ninth for both sides would send this game into extras.
- Neither team was able to get the bats going in extras, until the 14th inning. Widener scored first in the top half of the frame, as Brendan Raven drove a ball up the middle to drive in the go ahead run. Alvernia was also able to get their bats going, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take home game one of the series
