Trowbridge Scores Hat Trick and Then Some in Win Over Misericordia

Hat trick for Trowbridge; Big saves from Polacek

DALLAS, Pa. – Clark Trowbridge and Widener Women's Lacrosse bring home a close win over Misericordia on Saturday afternoon.
 
The 9-7 win moves the Pride to 3-5 in the regular season.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Clark Trowbridge led the Pride with four goals.
  • Defensively, six would see a caused turnover.
  • Regan Polacek would register six saves in the cage.
  • The Pride would shoot 14-of-17 in shots on target and lead the Cougars 22-19 in ground ball pickups.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride started slow but quickly answered with a Trowbridge draw control and a Jessica Mantz free-position goal at 8:07. Alyssa Ruggiero tied the game at two after a Gianna Scaliti ground ball pickup. The Pride ended the quarter tied at 2.
  • Makayla Cox created a turnover on defense and allowed a Trowbridge goal to take the lead at 13:08. The momentum would swim with a Ruggiero draw control win. Trowbridge would cause a turnover and snag a ground ball allowing shots from Chloe Mingioni and Claire Lynch. Lynch found the back of the cage wth an unassisted goal at 9:38 to take a 4-2 lead. The Cougars answered but Trowbridge answered right back at 5:14. Jarliah Ferko won a draw control and helped Lynch score a free-position goal to head into halftime up 6-3.
  • A quick halftime turnaround would see a Trowbridge draw control and a goal, taking a 7-3 lead. Kasey Thronton created a turnover to keep the Cougars off the board and two back-to-back post hits would leave the trip to the offense side empty. Polacek made a free-position save with under two minutes remaining which transitioned to a Trowbridge goal to end the quarter up 8-3.
  • The Cougar offense began to bite back but Mingioni put a break on the opposing scoring with her own goal from Mantz at 8:55. Polacek wrapped up the game with two more saves to end the game with a 9-7 win.

Widener returns home to Chester, Pa. on Wednesday, Mar. 26 for Morgan's Message Game against the 4-5 (0-1 Centennial) Ursinus Bears. First draw is set for 7 p.m. on Dixon Field.
