HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME ONEÂ
-
Widener started hot in the bottom of the first when Paris Balilonis ripped a 2-run double to left-center to give the Pride a quick 2-0 lead. In the second, Katelyn Tong came through with a sacrifice fly to plate Caitlyn Katchur, who had reached on a walk and stolen second, stretching the lead to 3-0. Stevenson responded with five runs across the second and third innings, but Widener stayed in it. In the bottom of the third, Alyssa Gomez grounded out to score Sam McCarthy, and Balilonis added another RBI single to bring Widener back within one. After three innings, the Pride trailed 5-4.Â
-
Stevenson tacked on three more runs in the top of the sixth to make it 8-4, but Widener mounted an explosive rally in the bottom half. Kaelin Kuester started it with a sacrifice fly, and after a couple of hits and errors, Jocelin Mayorga delivered a massive 2-run homer to left, igniting the home crowd and tying the game at 8-8. Moments later, Tong capped her stellar day with a go-ahead home run. Amanda Danz closed out the seventh with a scoreless frame to secure the comeback 9-8 win for Widener.Â
HOW IT HAPPENED IN GAME TWOÂ
-
The second game began as a pitching duel between Caitlyn Katchur and the Mustangs' Bullpen, with both sides going scoreless through the first three innings. Widener's best early scoring chance came in the second when Elizabeth Carney singled to left, but she was stranded on base. Defensively, Widener kept things tight with solid infield play from Paris Balilonis and Sam McCarthy, but Stevenson eventually broke through in the fourth with a 2-run homer to take the lead. After four innings, Widener trailed 2-0.Â
-
Stevenson added insurance runs in each of the final three innings, gradually building their lead. Widener had a runner reach in the fifth and again in the seventh thanks to patient at-bats from Katelyn Tong and Taylor Bell, but couldn't push a run across. Despite a complete game effort from Katchur, who pitched 6.0 innings with three strikeouts, the Pride's offense was stifled by Stevenson in a 7-0 loss.Â
