Baseball Continues Conference Winning Streak Over Stevenson

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener Baseball came out on top of a back and forth game against the Stevenson university Mustangs.

The Pride improve to 11-7 and 4-0 in the MAC Commonwealth.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Jack Balcer continues to dominate, going 3-5 with a double.
  • Brendan Raven was clutch today, going 3-4 with a walk 3 RBIs and a double.
  • Jon Aman had a solid day going 2-5 with a double and an RBI.
  • Trae Sanders gave Widener a solid 6.1 innings allowing 2 earned runs and striking out 6.
HOW ITS HAPPENED
  • The Mustangs struck first in the top of the first inning, hitting a two RBI single through the left side. The Pride struck back in the bottom of the second inning as Brendan Raven scored the first run of the game on a Stevenson error. Braedyn Clinton followed that up with an RBI single to tie up the game. Jon Aman then poked a double into left center field for Widener's third run of the inning. The Mustangs immediately tied the game back up at three in the top of the third. Widener regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning after a Chris Mckenna RBI single down the left field line.
  • After a shaky couple of innings to start the day, Trae Sanders settled in, delivering a scoreless fourth, fifth, and sixth inning. Widener got the bats rolling again in the bottom of the sixth. Jack Balcer led off the inning with a double to deep center field. Sean Burke drove him with an RBI single to right field. Brendan Raven followed that up with a single of his own driving in two more runs to give the Pride a 7-3 lead. Stevenson responded with a run of their own in the top of the seventh after an double down the left field line. Widener extended their lead in the bottom of the eight, capitalizing on Stevenson mistakes and drawing a couple walks to bring home three more runs. Zack Pollock came in to close out the game giving the Pride a 10-5 win.
 
UP NEXT
The Pride will travel to Owings Mills, Md. for the final two games of their conference series against the Stevenson Mustangs on Saturday, March 22nd. First pitch is set for 12:00pm.
