CLEARWATER, Fla. – Junior
Alex Krohn notches herself above the 100 career point line in a close battle with Washington College.
The 11-10 loss moves the Pride to 1-6 in the regular season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Alex Krohn led with three goals and two assists on the day.
- First year Claire Lynch would dish two assists.
- Defensively, Clark Trowbridge and Alyssa Ruggiero would cause a pair of turnovers each.
- Regan Polacek would see a career high 15 saves on 26 shots on target.
- The Pride would win six draw controls, take 26 shots, and go 2-of-2 in free position shots.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride would open hot with two quick goals in the first five minutes of play. Ruggiero would see the first on a free position shot at 12:02. A Krohn caused turnover would give her a ground ball while Jessica Mantz saw her sixth goal of the season at 10:51. A Shorewomen free position shot would be stopped by Polacek, allowing Ava Leporati to hit net to take a 3-1 lead. The quarter ended with the Pride up 3-2.
- Polacek opened the second with another free position save. The Pride offense would begin to cool as the defense would keep the damage under control. A Gianna Scaliti goal from Claire Lynch would break the scoring drought with 10 seconds remaining in the half to bring the score to 6-4.
- A halftime break would benefit the Pride as Polacek made another save and Trowbridge scored her first goal of the game and seventh in the season from Krohn. Jordan Edwards would drive in for an unassisted goal at 7:29 to make it a one-point game. Polacek's free positions saves racked up with another at 4:55. Chloe Mingioni would find the net at 2:18 while Krohn tied the game at eight with 15 seconds remaining in the third.
- Back-to-back green cards for the Pride would be killed to allow Krohn to notch her 100th career point at 12:42 with a man-down goal from a Lynch pass. Three Shorewomen goals would force a Widener timeout at 5:49. Krohn's man-up goal at 3:30 gave the Blue and Gold life as they cut the deficit to one. A turnover by the Shorewomen with under a minute to play gave the Pride a timeout to draw a final play. Time would expire and the Pride would fall 11-10 in the Florida sun.
