Salisbury, Md. – Widener Baseball falls in back-to-back extra innings losses to SUNY Oswego and Salisbury.
The Pride are now 2-4 on the season.
BY THE NUMBERS GAME 1
- Sean Curran had another excellent day on the mound, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing just two earned runs while striking out nine batters.
- Ryan Bauerle continues his hot streak, going 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, an RBI, and two runs scored. He also stole a base.
- Sean Burke contributed with a 2-for-3 performance, including a double, two walks, and a run scored.
BY THE NUMBER GAME 2
- Jack Balcer had a strong game from the lead off spot, going 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI.
- Sean Burke contributed with a clutch double and an RBI, finishing 1-for-4 at the plate.
- Trae Sanders had a solid start, pitching 4.1 innings while allowing two earned runs on eight hits and striking out two.
- Aidan O'Brien provided strong relief, tossing 3.1 scoreless innings while allowing just three hits and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
- Widener got on the board first in the second inning, as Ryan Bauerle tripled to lead off the frame and later scored to give the Pride an early 1-0 lead. Oswego responded in the third with a run of their own to tie the game at 1-1. In the fourth inning, Widener regained the lead thanks to a Brendan Raven sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 2-1. Oswego quickly answered again in the bottom half of the fourth with a run to tie it at 2-2. The fifth inning remained scoreless, as both starting pitchers settled in.
- Widener took the lead again in the sixth inning, with Chris McKenna doubling down the right field line to give the lead back to Widener 3-2. In the seventh, Ryan Bauerle doubled to right center to bring in another run and increase the lead to 4-2. Oswego answered back in the bottom of the seventh, scratching across a run of their own. Oswego then went on to tie the game at four in the bottom of the eight with a sacrifice fly. Neither team could score in the ninth, bringing the game to extra innings where Oswego broke through with the game-winning run to secure a 5-4 walk-off victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
- The game started out with both starting pitchers controlling the game, each tossing three shutout innings. Widener broke the scoreless tie as Sean Burke connected on an RBI double to put the Pride up 1-0. Widener would add on to their lead into the fifth with a Jack Balcer RBI double to increase to lead to 2-0.
- Salisbury responded in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs to tie the game. Strong relief pitching from Aidan O'Brien and Caleb Horner kept the game all tied up at two and send Widener into extras for the second straight game. The Pride were held scoreless in the top of the tenth before Salisbury was able to walk it off in the bottom half of the inning to secure a 3-2 win.
