Three Homeruns Propel the Pride to Victory Over Rutgers Camden

Burke's Ninth Inning Heroics Sent Widener Home With a WIn

CAMDEN, N.J. – Widener Baseball breaks the tie in the top of the ninth to secure a victory over the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors.

The Pride improve to 2-2 on the season.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Kevin Bukowski provided more power, going 1-for-4 with a two-run home run, a walk, and a stolen base.
  • Sean Burke delivered at the plate, finishing 2-for-5 with a home run, a double, and four RBIs.
  • Brendan Raven also had a productive game, going 2-for-4 with a two-run home run.
  • Ryan Bauerle provided a spark, collecting two hits in five at-bats, scoring twice, and adding a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Widener started fast, putting up two runs in the first inning thanks to a Kevin Bukowski home run over right-center field. The Pride kept the momentum going in the second, adding two more runs on a Brendan Raven Home run to extend the lead to 4-1. The third inning proved to be the biggest of the day for Widener, as they exploded for four runs, highlighted by Sean Burke's three-run homer. Rutgers-Camden responded with four runs of their own in the bottom of the third, cutting Widener's lead to 8-7. Rutgers-Camden added one more run in the fourth, tying the game at 8-8. Both teams went scoreless in the fifth, as Widener's bullpen began to settle in.
  • The Widener pitching staff took control in the later innings, as John Najdek tossed two scoreless innings, keeping the game knotted at 8-8. Ryan Bauerle stroked a one out double and advanced to third on a wild pitch before Sean Burke came up clutch delivering an RBI double to give Widener the lead. Ethan Lytle shut the door in the bottom of the ninth, striking out two batters and securing the save.
UP NEXT
The Pride will travel to Salisbury, Md. for a double header against SUNY Oswego and Salisbury. Game times are set for 10:00 and 12:30 pm.
