Baseball Unable to Overcome Early Kean Lead

UNION, N.J. – Widener Baseball fell behind early and were unable to recover against the Kean University Cougars.

The Pride fall to 1-2 on the season.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Kevin Bukowski saw the ball well today, going 2-for-2 with a solo home run, two walks, and a hit-by-pitch. He also recorded an RBI and a run scored.
  • Jon Aman contributed two hits in four at-bats, adding a walk and reaching base multiple times.
  • Ryan Bauerle also had a productive day at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Widener struck early in the first inning, with Kevin Bukowski launching a solo home run to give the Pride a 1-0 lead. Kean responded immediately in the bottom of the first, plating three runs on four hits including a triple. The second inning was another big frame for Kean, as they extended their lead with three more runs, two of those coming on an inside the park home run. Widener loaded the bases in the third but were unable to bring the runner's home. Kean tacked on another three-run inning in the fourth, pushing their lead to 9-1.
  •  Despite the early deficit, Widener's bullpen stepped up in the middle innings, as Garrett Moyer provided two innings of scoreless relief. Dylan Neves and Caleb Horner continued to quiet the Kean offense, keeping the Cougars off the board from the 5th inning on. The Pride's offense showed life in the later innings, racking up 10 total hits, but struggled to push runs across, stranding 12 runners on base. Kean's pitching held strong in the final innings, securing the 9-1 victory.
