SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The first match of Women's Lacrosse's 2025 season ends in a heartbreaking overtime loss against the Swarthmore Garnet.
The Pride fall to 0-1 on the season and remain 0-0 in conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Alex Krohn led the offense with a team-high three goals and one assist, finishing with four total points on just four shots.
- Chloe Mingioni was a key playmaker, tallying two goals and four assists, including a power-play goal.
- Claire Lynch came in clutch two goals, both coming on the power play, and added three ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Swarthmore jumped out to an early 3-0 lead before Widener responded with back-to-back goals from Clark Trowbridge (assisted by Chloe Mingioni) and Chloe Mingioni to pull within one. However, a late Swarthmore goal ended the quarter with Widener trailing 4-2.
- Widener battled back early, with Alex Krohn and Gianna Scaliti both scoring in the first three minutes to tie the game at 4-4. Swarthmore regained momentum with three straight goals, but Claire Lynch converted on a power-play opportunity to close the half with Widener down 7-5.
- The Pride had a dominant stretch, scoring four goals in under three minutes, led by Chloe Mingioni's power-play goal, an even-strength strike from Alyssa Ruggiero, and two more from Alex Krohn. Swarthmore managed one goal in response, and Widener led 9-8 heading into the final quarter.
- The Garnet regained control with three quick goals to take an 11-9 lead, but Widener fought back as Gianna Scaliti found the back of the net to bring the score within one. Then with 2:29 left to play Claire Lynch came up clutch tying the game and eventually sending it to overtime, tied 11-11. Although the Pride fought hard, Swarthmore would score in overtime to end the Pride's comeback attempt.
