WINCHESTER, Va.- The pride took their yearly trip down to Shenandoah to face off against a Hornets team who was receiving top 25 votes to start the season. Widener lost 1-0 in game one but battled back to take game two by a final score of 6-2.
The Pride start the season 1-1 , their first conference game is Friday, March 14
th vs. Eastern.
BY THE NUMBERS GAME 1
- Sean Curran delivered a strong performance on the mound, going 5.0 innings pitched only giving up 4 hits and 1 earned run.
- John Aman had the only extra base hit for the Pride, scorching a double down the line in the 3rd inning. Balcer, Koblos, and Bauerle each collected a hit of their own.

HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 1
- Shenandoah broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the second with a lead off double, followed by a triple to bring in the game's first run. Curran was able to work out of the jam and prevent the Hornets from adding onto their lead. Widener had opportunities early, with John Aman doubling in the top of the third, but they were unable to get him across the plate.
- Despite a strong five innings from Curran, the Pride could not find the timely hit to push across a run. Widener's bullpen kept the game close, with Jovani Hallihan and Ethan Lytle combining for 1.0 shutout inning, but the offense remained quiet, sealing a 1-0 loss.
HOW IT HAPPENED GAME 2
- Shenandoah got on the board early, scoring a first inning run on a pair of singles. The Hornets added on another run in third inning with an RBI Single. Widener struggled to generate offense early but broke through in the fourth inning with a three-run outburst, started by a Jack Balcer double. Kevin Bukowski was able to drive him in with an RBI Single. Widener would then load the bases where Brendan Raven would get hit by a pitch and Chris McKenna would hit a sacrifice fly to give the pride a 3-2 lead.
- Widener extended its lead in the sixth inning with two more runs, thanks to Ryan Bauerle RBI double and Brendan Raven added a sacrifice fly in to give the Pride a 5-2 lead. The bullpen held strong, with John Najdek, Jake Mello, and Ethan Lytle combining for three scoreless innings, sealing the 6-2 victory for Widener.

The pride will travel to Union N.J. to take on the Kean University Cougars on Tuesday, February 25
th. First pitch is set for 3:30pm.
