GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Widener Women's Basketball Offense came to play in season opener win against the Ursinus College Bears.
The Pride are now 1-0 on the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Mia Robbins posted a dominant double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 6-for-15 from the floor while adding one block and one steal.
- Lindsay Kutz turned in an efficient 15-point outing, finishing 6-for-9 from the field with five assists, three rebounds, and a block in 30 minutes.
- Liliana Metrick delivered 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting, including a three-pointer, while adding five rebounds.
- Breelynn Leary provided a lift with nine points and five boards, going 4-for-8 from the floor in 18 minutes.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Widener opened the season with a punch, racing out to a quick lead behind early layups from Lindsay Kutz, Riley Stackhouse, and Mia Robbins. A 13–1 run was capped by a Robbins layup at 6:08 gave the Pride a 12-point advantage, their largest of the quarter. Widener controlled the paint (14 points inside) and forced five turnovers in the first period, heading into the second up 18–15.
- Widener's depth took over as Breelynn Leary provided a spark with four points and an offensive rebound. Robbins continued to dominate, adding five more points in the quarter. The Pride's defense was outstanding in the second quarter, holding Ursinus to just 13 points in the period. Widener closed the half strong and carried a 38–28 lead into the locker room.
- Ursinus posted its highest-scoring quarter with 22 points, briefly cutting into the margin, but Widener responded each time. Liliana Metrick knocked down a three, Robbins worked inside for five more points, and Kutz added four as the Pride matched the Bears with 20 points in the frame. Despite Ursinus' surge, Widener maintained a 58–50 advantage heading into the final quarter.
- Widener closed the door with its strongest offensive stretch of the night, scoring 24 fourth-quarter points. Kutz, Metrick, and Leary all contributed key buckets, while the Pride defense forced three more turnovers in the period. The Pride pushed their lead to a game-high 19 points with 3:37 remaining, closing out an 82–67 season-opening victory.
