Shimko Shows Season High Tackles, Interception, and Forced Fumble in Keystone Cup

DOYLESTOWN,Pa. – Widener Football concludes 2025 campaign in the annual Keystone Cup against Delaware Valley.

The 28-7 loss moves the Pride to 4-6 to conclude the regular season and 3-6 in conference play.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Caiden Leszczynski threw for 64 yards and a touchdown at quarterback.
  • Michael Turner showed a net of 44-yards on a dozen attempts.
  • Dean Herr would snag the only Pride touchdown with 36-yards.
  • Luke Shimko led with 14 total tackles, an interception, and a half a sack.
  • The Pride held 150 of total offense.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride opened with a coin toss win but deferred giving the Aggies the ball first. Fred Alder would send the ball deep as an early unnecessary roughness penalty extended the kickoff. Luke Shaeffer and Shimko picked up tackles before the Aggies struck first. A short offensive series for the Pride would show a three and out from Andrew Olsen. The Pride and Aggies would go back and forth before the Aggies extended the score 14-0 to end the quarter.
     
  • To begin the second AJ Cintron snagged a pick to set the Pride up on their own 5. Dalton Wickel would hold a handful of rushes to move the Pride for a first down. The Aggies drive at 9:44 would hold six minutes of play as the defense tried to hold on. Shimko would hold the advancing Aggies short with an interception and a return to the WID28. The Pride couldn't capitalize as they headed into half down 14.
     
  • Out of half, the Pride would hold a scoring possession with Leszczynski leading the way. A short run to the left would extend the drive and a deep ball to Herr would show points, cutting the deficit to seven. The Aggies next possession would answer to put the score back to a 14-point swing. The Pride would drive the field with short runs by Turner to move the Pride to Aggies territory. The Pride would send it away and end the quarter down 21-7.
     
  • With 15 minutes of play remaining, the Pride dug in with the offense on the field. An offensive series that would be ended with a 35-yard Brandon Yoder punt before Jalen Walker had a hurry up to help for a Shimko fumble on the DVU40. Anthony Miceli would jump on it giving the Pride the ball on the DVU46. The Pride would go series for series before the Aggies pushed the lead to 28-7 for the win.
