Abanyie’s Eight Saves Power Widener to Scoreless Draw at Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Widener Women's Soccer shut out the Eastern Eagles to earn a draw.

The Pride finish the season with a 7-7-4 record (2-4-1 MAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Widener came out strong, testing Eastern goalkeeper early when Charlotte Burke fired a low shot in the second minute that was saved. The Pride kept the pressure on midway through the period as Allison Gomez put another attempt on goal in the 14th minute. Goalkeeper Araba Abanyie made a key save in the 29th minute, keeping the match level. Both teams traded limited chances through the remainder of the half, and the sides went into the break tied 0–0.
 
  • Burke again threatened just after halftime, forcing a save from the Eastern goalkeeper in the 45th minute. Widener created more opportunities in the 68th minute when Abby Picollo's shot was saved by the team, followed by another look from Reilly Klein that went just wide. The Pride defense held firm over the final 15 minutes, weathering heavy pressure to earn a 0–0 draw in the season finale.
