Pride Power Past Spartans in Four Sets on the Road

CHESTER, Pa. - Widener Women's Volleyball battled past York College in four sets, locking in another crucial conference win.

Widener improves to 13–10 on the year and advances to 4–1 in conference play.

BY THE NUMBERS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Widener opened the match with steady energy, keeping the early points close behind strong net play from Benjamin. A service ace from Barnes and key defensive touches gave the Pride short bursts of momentum, but a few untimely errors allowed York to pull ahead late. Despite a late push, Widener's comeback fell just short as the Pride dropped the first set 25–17.

  • The Pride bounced back strong in the second set, finding its rhythm early behind Mary Carter's back-to-back service aces and solid setting from Chronister. Benjamin and Ava Kramer took control at the net, combining for several key kills that swung momentum the Pride's way. Consistent pressure on both sides of the ball kept the Spartans off balance as the Pride maintained control throughout the frame, taking the set 25–14 to even the match at one apiece.

  • Widener carried its energy from the second set into the third. Julia Schwab made an early impact with a service ace, while Airyn Zimmerman and Gabriella Bottino delivered key kills to keep the Pride ahead. Chronister's steady setting helped spread the offense, and Benjamin came through with clutch points late in the frame. A final push, highlighted by Benjamin's kill and a York miscue, sealed the set 25–23 as Widener took a 2–1 lead in the match.

  • The Pride came out strong in the fourth set and never looked back. Chronister and Benjamin connected early for a quick lead, while Kramer continued to find gaps in York's defense. Schwab's service ace and Bottino's steady offense helped keep momentum firmly with the Pride. As the set progressed, Widener's blocking presence led by Benjamin, Mira Canali, Kramer, and Zimmerman frustrated the Spartans at the net. Chronister sealed the match with a long serving run, giving the Pride the 25–20 set win and the 3–1 match victory.
