Men’s Lacrosse Ends Regular Season in Tough Loss to Stevenson

Pride concludes season 3-4 in conference play

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – In the final regular season game of the 2024 season, the Widener Men's Lacrosse team saw a tough loss to the second seed Stevenson Mustangs.
 
The Pride's 22-9 loss put the team at 4-12 in the regular season and 3-4 in MAC Commonwealth play.
 
BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED
  • A defensive battle for the Pride would start the game against the Mustangs. For the first five minutes the Pride offense would be held scoreless. Bryant Maits would end the streak with a goal to put the Blue and Gold on the board. The Pride would be held to one this quarter as a defensive battle arose once more. Heading into the second quarter, the Pride were down 6-1.
  • Out of the first, the Pride wouldn't back down with a Nicholas Knepp goal with a Keegan Billie assist. At the 10:07 mark, Maits picked up his second of the game to cut into the Mustang lead. The Pride would pester shots that would fall wide of the target. A ground ball from Billie would send Mike Kala'I driving to the cage to score the fourth Pride goal just before half. At half, the Pride were down 11-4.
  • A Matt Shingle faceoff win and Nick Brennan ground ball would send Brennan on a shooting string right of half. Billie continued to rack up saves in the third. With three minutes left, Colin Wingate and Maits would continue to send in shots to keep the Mustangs goalkeeper on his toes. The Pride would be held scoreless in the third.
  • To open the final 15 minutes of play, Billie would make back-to-back saves. At 9:38, N. Knepp saw his 14th goal of the season to start a little momentum for the Pride. A Mustangs' turnover allowed a good clear and a Matt Buckley goal to cut into the lead. The Blue and Gold would end the game with a three-goal string as Jimmy Knepp would score with 4:10 left. Wesley Sporer got onto the board with a goal at 3:24 and Caiden Shaffer ended the day at 2:50 with a Zach Rosamalia assist. The Pride would end their season with a tough 22-9 loss
