Women’s Lacrosse Rolls by Eastern Eagles in Dominating Win

The Pride Scored Eight Times in Just the First Quarter

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Widener women's lacrosse had their offense on all cylinders on Wednesday against the Eastern University Eagles, as they scored a season-high in goals. The final score was 18-1.

The Pride are 8-8 in the regular season. They are 4-2 in conference play.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Jamie DeHaven had a team-high, and season-high, five goals.
  • Alex Krohn had a career-high six assists.
  • Clark Trowbridge led the Pride with two caused turnovers and five draw controls.
  • Maddie Reeser got the start in goal. She made two saves in 30 minutes of action.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST EASTERN
  • The Pride's offense was hot early. They would score a trio of goals within the first 91 seconds. Krohn assisted on two of them. Widener would force a shot-clock violation and an Eastern turnover before DeHaven scored her second goal to make the score 4-0. A Reeser save and a good clear made way for another Widener score. Krohn had four assists on the initial five scores. After a barrage of Eagles' turnovers, the Pride took advantage to score three more times before the quarter ended. In all, in just the opening 15 minutes, DeHaven had a hat trick, Trowbridge and Catherine Scott scored two times each, and Lucy Breithaupt had one goal. It was 8-0.
  • Each side saw a turnover as the second quarter began. But, Jordyn Edwards put a goal on the board from Breithaupt. Reeser would see a few shots. Two were wide, but she saved another. A free-position attempt resulted in a Widener score 20 seconds later. It put them into double digits. Rylie Christy put one in the net, and Ava Leporati followed suit at 2:09 left in the quarter. The Pride hurled multiple shots at Eastern's net before time expired, but they were offline. Widener led 11-0 at the break.
  • Regan Polacek checked in at goalie for Reeser in the third quarter. More Eastern turnovers turned into two more goals for the Pride. Chloe Mingioni and Riley Massett got past the defense, with Krohn assisting on the latter. Edwards scored again on a dime from Krohn at 4:15 after DeHaven caused a turnover and scooped up the ground ball. The Pride ended the third with a free-position attempt. After three, the Pride had a 14-0 advantage.
  • The Pride scored two goals to open the fourth quarter before Eastern prevented the shutout with their own goal. The first Widener goal in that stretch was from DeHaven on a Gianna Scaliti assist, while the second was by Mingioni from Jessica Mantz. A ground ball and a successful clear transitioned into Widener's final two scores of the day. Scott scored from Scaliti on a man-up situation after Eastern was assessed a yellow card. DeHaven wrapped things up with 45 seconds left. Widener finished the afternoon with an 18-1 victory.
