Women’s Lacrosse Falls to York Spartans in Saturday Matinee

Katelyn Rosini Made 10 Saves

YORK, Pa. – Widener women's lacrosse put up a good fight against the York College Spartans on Saturday, but the Spartans won 16-4. York is ranked #19 in Division III.

The Pride are 7-8 in the regular season. They are 3-2 in conference play.

BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST YORK
  • Despite an early shot attempt from the Spartans, it was the Pride, specifically Mantz, who scored first. Rosini would face multiple shots from York's high-flying offense, but none went past her. A Cox caused turnover transitioned into Scott scoring on a Jamie DeHaven assist. However, the Spartans would cash in on the next four goals for the quarter. Rosini made three saves in that stretch. York led 4-2 after one.
  • York scored the first goal of the second quarter. A yellow card and green card would give the Pride a two-man-up opportunity, but they were unable to capitalize. Despite Widener's defense forcing a shot-clock violation, the home team scored the final four goals of the quarter. It was a 9-2 advantage for York at halftime.
  • The Pride won the opening draw control of the second half, which led to a quick shot attempt by DeHaven. York scored two more goals before the Pride ended their cold streak. At 5:07, Scott got past York's goalie on an Alex Krohn assist. It was on a man-up situation. The two sides exchanged a goal to wrap up the third quarter. On a man-up free-position shot, Mantz put one in the net with 23 seconds left. York was up 12-4 through three.
  • The Pride forced another shot-clock violation within the first two minutes of the fourth. Even with this, the Spartans' offense continued their dominating afternoon with four more goals. Maddie Reeser checked in at goalie with 7:52 remaining. In the last six minutes, Reeser made four saves. But, the deficit put the game away. The Spartans won 16-4.
