BY THE NUMBERS: GAME 1 BY THE NUMBERS: GAME 2 HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALVERNIA

Game 1
  • The Golden Wolves were on the board in the bottom of the first with two runs. Widener and Alvernia were engaged in a pitching duel in the second and third innings, as neither allowed many runners on base. In the bottom of the third, the Pride got the final defensive out on a good throw from center field to third base. Alvernia led 2-0 after three.
  • Widener's defense continued to make solid plays. They picked off a runner in the fourth for the final Alvernia out. The Pride took the lead away from the Golden Wolves in the sixth inning. Two RBI singles and two RBI doubles gave the Pride a two-run lead. In the last two defensive innings, Widener made multiple substitutions. Ethan Lytle took the mound in the seventh. Despite Alvernia putting two pinch hitters at the plate in the seventh, Lytle struck them out. Widener took game one 4-2. It was Lytle's fifth save of the season.
Game 2
  • Alvernia scored the first run of game two on an error in the bottom of the second. The home team added to their lead in the third with an RBI single after having a triple on the previous play. The Pride's offense had trouble against Alvernia's pitching in the first three innings. Only three batters went to the plate in each. O'Neill went through three batters in the fourth, including one strikeout, to retire the Golden Wolves. Through four, Alvernia had a 2-0 advantage.
  • The Pride countered with their first score, courtesy of a Weaver RBI groundout in the fifth. They would tie the game in the sixth on an Alvernia throwing error, which scored Savkov. However, momentum began to slip in the sixth. The Golden Wolves scored on three straight plays, including a two-run home run to clear the bases. Weaver came up big again with his own solo shot in the seventh. The deficit was cut in half. Despite the Pride scoring on another error in the eighth, Alvernia put two more runs up in the bottom of the eighth, the latter of which was an RBI on a ground-rule double. The Golden Wolves retired the Pride in three batters to end the game. Alvernia won 8-4.
