Widener Baseball Falls to Alvernia Golden Wolves in Game One of Three-Game Set

The Pride are on a Three-Game Losing Streak

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener baseball had a tough outing against the Alvernia University Golden Wolves on Friday, as the Golden Wolves won 12-2.

The Pride are 11-18 in the regular season. They are 7-9 in conference play.

BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALVERNIA
  • A two-RBI double in the top of the first put the Golden Wolves in the lead. Despite having two runners on base in each of the first two innings, the Pride's offense was retired in both. Alvernia would add a run in the second and four runs in the third. On the last play of the top of the third, even though the visitors scored, Widener's defense threw out another runner trying to go home for the final out. Sanders took down the first three batters he faced in the fourth, but Alvernia led 7-0.
  • Widener got on the board in the bottom of the fifth. A Kevin Bukowski RBI single scored Barenz. The Golden Wolves countered with scores in the sixth and seventh innings, the latter of which was a solo home run to left-center field. Both sides would score in the eighth. A Savkov RBI single brought DiGuiseppe in. Although the Pride had a runner in scoring position in the bottom of the ninth, the deficit was too great for a comeback. The Golden Wolves won the game 12-2.
