Widener Baseball Sees Tough Loss vs. Albright Lions

The Pride will Look to Bounce Back on Saturday

READING, Pa. – Despite having a 4-0 lead on Friday against the Albright College Lions, Widener baseball lost 7-4.

The Pride are 10-15 on the season. They are 6-7 in conference play.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Alex Savkov and Jack Balcer each had two runs. Balcer led the way with three hits.
  • Trae Sanders got the start on the mound. In 100 pitches, he struck out four batters in six innings.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALBRIGHT
  • Balcer put the Pride on the board in the first inning with an RBI triple, which scored Savkov. A Matt Koblos RBI single that brought Balcer home gave Widener a 2-0 lead. Sanders led the Pride's defense to quick half-innings against Albright's offense in the first and second. Savkov, who was the first batter of the third, was hit-by-pitch for the second time in as many at-bats. Widener added two more runs in the third from Savkov and Kevin Bukowski. Balcer also recorded his second triple of the afternoon. However, Albright began their comeback in the bottom of the third. An RBI double and a two-RBI single back-to-back did the most damage. Albright would take the lead in the bottom of the fourth when Brenden Stuhltrager stole home. After four, Albright had a 5-4 advantage.
  • Over the next few innings, both defenses did not allow many batters to the plate. Even with two runners on base in the top of the sixth, Widener could not score. Albright scored two in the seventh with an RBI bunt and a single, the latter of which was with bases loaded. Down by three runs in the ninth, the Pride were retired in three outs by Albright. The final score was 7-4.
