Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Albright Lions on HEADstrong Game

Catherine Scott Put up Four Goals

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener women's lacrosse dominated the Albright College Lions 15-3 on Wednesday. This was the Pride's "Faculty Appreciation Day and HEADstrong Game." The HEADstrong Foundation offers financial, residential, and emotional support to families affected by cancer.

The Pride are 6-6 in the regular season. They are 2-0 in conference play.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Catherine Scott led the Pride with four goals. Jamie DeHaven had three.
  • DeHaven had a team-best three caused turnovers and tied for the team-high two draw controls.
  • Katelyn Rosini earned the win in goal. She made four saves and only allowed three goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALBRIGHT
  • The Pride scored early and often to start the game. DeHaven got on the board not even two minutes in. Widener forced a shot-clock violation, which led to a Chloe Mingioni goal after a successful clear. In a 17-second stretch, Scott cashed in on consecutive goals. A 4-0 lead led to an Albright timeout. Both sides saw a few turnovers, but the Pride ended the quarter with three scores in the last 1:17. Alex Krohn, Clark Trowbridge, and DeHaven put one through. In the first quarter, Krohn had a man-up goal and three assists. Widener had a 7-0 lead after one.
  • Albright scored their first goal of the quarter at 11:34 off a Widener turnover. Shots were exchanged by both teams until the Lions cut into their deficit with another goal. The Pride had multiple successful clears, and they led 7-2 at the break.
  • Not even a minute into the second half, DeHaven put Widener's eighth goal on the board. Mingioni would follow suit two minutes later. Although Albright scored a free-position goal, the Pride's defense played well in the third. Out of the four total shot-clock violations on Albright, Widener forced two in the third alone. In between those violations, Jessica Mantz scored on a dime from Mingioni. Kasey Thornton caused two turnovers in the back half of the quarter. The score was 10-3 through three.
  • Both teams turned the ball over in the first part of the final quarter before Widener ripped off three straight scores. Scott cashed in on two, while Trowbridge added one. First-year Gianna Scaliti had a season-high, and career-high, two assists in that stretch. After the Lions' bench was assessed a yellow card, Lucy Breithaupt and Rylie Christy brought the Pride's goal total to 15. Widener won 15-3.
