Women’s Lacrosse Comes up Short to Muhlenberg Mules

The Pride had 13 Shots on Goal in 18 Attempts

CHESTER, Pa. – Widener women's lacrosse could not overcome the Muhlenberg College Mules on Tuesday, particularly in the second half. Widener lost 14-6.

The Pride are 2-3 in the regular season. Their first MAC game is on Saturday, April 6 vs. Alvernia.

BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MUHLENBERG
  • Right away, the Mules won the opening draw control and scored. The Pride answered with a goal from Jessica Mantz. Muhlenberg would score the next two, and Widener got one shot up in that stretch. After a few minutes of no scoring from either side, the Pride tied the game with back-to-back scores. DeHaven cashed in on the first and assisted on the next, which was scored by Scott. The game was tied 3-3 after one.
  • Early in the second quarter, Muhlenberg's shots were off-target, including a blocked one by Widener. However, the Mules broke the tie at 13:30. The Pride caused a few turnovers to prevent Muhlenberg scores, but the Mules found the net once again on a free-position shot. Alyssa Ruggiero had a solid stretch after that Muhlenberg goal: she won the draw control, scooped up a ground ball, and put one in the net. The Mules hit one more goal before the end of the period following a Widener foul. Muhlenberg led 6-4 at the half.
  • Despite a close first half, the game was starting to slip in the third quarter. The Mules would score all five goals in the third set of 15 minutes. At 8:05, Reeser checked in at goalie for Rosini after a Widener timeout. Reeser stood her ground in the final minute, facing a high shot and recording a save. It was 11-4 through three.
  • Widener played good defense in the early part of the fourth, not letting any Muhlenberg shots past them. The two sides would exchange a goal within 29 seconds before the visitors scored consecutive goals. The Pride immediately countered with a free-position goal from Clark Trowbridge. Widener kept shooting as the time waned to the last minutes, but Muhlenberg made multiple saves and a block. Muhlenberg won 14-6.
