Women's Lacrosse Falls in Shootout vs. Ursinus Bears

DeHaven Sees Season-High in Goals

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Widener women's lacrosse suffered a 19-14 loss in a high-scoring game against the Ursinus College Bears on Wednesday.

The Pride are 4-6 in the regular season. Their first MAC game is on Saturday, April 6 vs. Alvernia.

BY THE NUMBERS HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST URSINUS
  • Ursinus began with a 2-0 lead, the first goal being on a free position. DeHaven and Trowbridge answered with two goals in a 53-second stretch. Both teams committed turnovers before Ursinus put three more shots into the net. After the fifth goal, DeHaven won the draw control and scored at 1:48. Alyssa Ruggiero cashed in as the clock expired on the quarter. Ursinus led 5-4.
  • The Bears switched goalies to start the second quarter. The home team would then score three straight goals. Two of them were man-up goals due to multiple Widener green cards. The Pride would cash in on two man-up goals from Trowbridge. Both sides continued their attack, with goals being constantly countered by the other team. Rosini made a save with one second left, but Ursinus had a 12-7 advantage at the break.
  • The Pride had a few free-position attempts in the first minute of the third quarter. Even with caused turnovers from the Pride, the Bears went on a 4-0 run to lead 16-7. During that stretch, Reeser checked in at goal. Ruggiero won the next draw control, which led to Catherine Scott scoring on a Trowbridge assist. Both teams saw one more goal each, with Scott putting one through the net again. The score was 17-9 through three.
  • Scott scored Widener's 10th goal as the last set of 15 minutes was underway. The Pride had a good sequence afterward. Reeser made a save, the Pride had a good clear, and DeHaven scored. This forced an Ursinus timeout. Another DeHaven score at 10:30 cut the deficit to five. Each side would each exchange two goals to end the game. Scott got one through on a DeHaven dime, and Alex Krohn was the final score from Chloe Mingioni. However, time ran out on a comeback attempt. Ursinus won 19-14.
