CHESTER, Pa. – Widener baseball played close games against the Stevenson University Mustangs on Friday, but the Mustangs won game one 5-3 and game two 10-8.
The Pride are 5-11 in the regular season. They are 1-4 in conference play.

- Alex Savkov led the team with two runs, three hits, and four RBIs. Barenz had two RBIs.
- Ethan Lytle, the final Widener pitcher on the mound in game two, struck out six batters.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST STEVENSON
Game 1
- The Mustangs started off game one with two runs before Jack Balcer hit an RBI single in the bottom of the first. Stevenson used a two-RBI triple in the second to extend their lead. The Pride played good defense in third, getting out of the half-inning with two Mustangs on base. Although Widener had a runner in scoring position in the third, they were retired on a groundout. Through three, Stevenson led 4-1.
- Stevenson earned a run back in the fourth on a sac-fly RBI. Weaver and Aman hit RBI singles in the bottom of the fourth to cut the deficit to 5-3. Widener made good defensive plays in the fifth and sixth, allowing just one runner on base in those innings. A quick top of the seventh led to the last offensive half-inning for the Pride. Despite having two men on base, the Pride could not score a run. Stevenson won the first game 5-3.
Game 2
- Similar to game one, the Mustangs opened game two with two runs. They would lead 4-0 in the second after a Pride error. Weaver got things moving in the bottom of the second with a hit-by-pitch, but Stevenson retired the Pride with two runners on base. The Mustangs went up 5-0 in the fourth, but the Pride answered back. With bases loaded, Savkov hit a two-RBI single to get the Pride on the board. A Barenz two-RBI double and a Balcer RBI single tied the game. The score was 5-5 after four.
- Stevenson grabbed the lead again on a sac-fly in the top of the fifth. Multiple Widener errors in the sixth and seventh innings brought the score to 9-5. Even with a Stevenson score in the eighth, Savkov smacked a two-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. A Brendan Raven sac-fly brought in a score in the bottom of the ninth, but they could not complete the comeback. Stevenson won 10-8.
