Women’s Lacrosse Gets Road Win over Moravian in Weekend Matinee

Clark Trowbridge Had a Team-Best Four Points

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Behind Clark Trowbridge's three goals on Saturday, Widener women's lacrosse defeated the Moravian University Greyhounds 9-8.

The Pride are 2-2 in the regular season. Their first MAC game is on Saturday, April 6 vs. Alvernia.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Trowbridge had three goals and one assist for four points. All four of her shots were on goal.
  • Jamie DeHaven had eight draw controls.
  • The Pride scooped up 12 ground balls and had eight caused turnovers.
  • Katelyn Rosini made 11 saves in goal.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST MORAVIAN
  • Widener won the opening draw control and immediately sprung an aerial attack. They scored three consecutive goals in the game's initial 81 seconds. Jessica Mantz, Alex Krohn, and Trowbridge all put one in the net. The Pride's defense stood its ground early with a few Rosini saves and a caused turnover from Amanda Dill. Midway through the first quarter, the Greyhounds found the net for the first two times on the day. Despite this, DeHaven won another draw control, and Trowbridge went and scored from a Krohn assist with three minutes left. It was a 4-2 Widener lead through one.
  • Although Moravian got some shots up in the first stages of the second quarter, Rosini made sure none got behind her. Widener was successful on multiple clears, but the Greyhounds scored on a free-position shot. The two sides would then score two in a row. Alyssa Ruggiero scored on a free position not too long after she won a draw control. Then, Trowbridge shot one through the net following a successful clear. Moravian would answer with two goals in the final moments. Widener had a narrow 6-5 lead at half.
  • Both goalies faced quick shots to start the third quarter. Each one made two saves not even three minutes in. The Pride even forced a shot-clock violation, along with the two Rosini saves on that possession. Widener and Moravian saw turnovers over the course of a scoreless stretch, but Moravian knocked a shot through to tie the game. DeHaven answered right back on an unassisted goal, and the Pride led 7-6 after three.
  • Ruggiero scored the first Pride points of the quarter with help from Mantz. Mantz had caused a turnover and got the ground ball. Widener kept the ball away from Rosini for a while, but a foul turned into a free-position goal for the home team. Krohn would score the final Widener points from Trowbridge. Down by two, Moravian got to within one goal with a minute left. But, the Pride prevented a last-second comeback. Widener won 9-8.
