CHESTER, Pa. – In Widener baseball's 2024 home opener, playing on their recently-renovated field, they could not overcome the Eastern University Eagles on Friday. Eastern won 10-4.
The Pride are 4-6 in the regular season. They are 0-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST EASTERN
- Despite the Pride getting two men on base in the first inning, it was the Eagles who scored first. An RBI single in the top of the second put them up 1-0. The visitors would then score two runs on a two-RBI double in the top of the third. Each side would see a score in the fourth. Eastern got an RBI double, but Widener countered with an RBI single from Ryan Weaver with two men on base. Eastern led 4-1 after four.
- Both teams played good defense in the fifth, not allowing a hit or run. However, the Eagles blew the game open in the sixth with five runs. They would score on an RBI single, a two-RBI single, and a two-run home run. The Pride saw runners on base in the sixth and seventh innings, but they could not bring anyone home. After an RBI flyout in the ninth for Eastern, Widener cut the deficit in the bottom of the ninth. With bases loaded, the Pride scored on three consecutive batters. Two RBI singles and an RBI flyout brought the score to 10-4. But, the Eagles retired the final Pride batter on a strikeout.

The Pride are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, March 16. They will go to St. Davids, Pa. to face Eastern in a doubleheader. First pitch is at 12 p.m.
