Scott Scores Second Consecutive Hat Trick, But the Pride Fall to Haverford Fords

The Pride are on a Two-Game Losing Streak

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Despite another three-goal performance from Catherine Scott, Widener women's lacrosse lost to the Haverford College Fords 18-6 on Wednesday. The Fords are receiving votes in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Top 25 poll.

The Pride are 1-2 in the regular season. Their first MAC game is on Saturday, April 6 vs. Alvernia.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Scott led the team with three goals, seven shots, and two ground balls.
  • Scott and Kasey Thornton each had two caused turnovers.
  • Katelyn Rosini and Maddie Reeser saw time in goal. Rosini made two saves, while Reeser made three.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST HAVERFORD
  • Haverford won the opening draw control and scored within the initial minute. However, the Pride countered immediately with two of their own goals. Alex Krohn scored the first goal on a Jamie DeHaven assist. The second was the exact opposite. After Haverford's second goal, Rosini made two saves before the Fords put another goal in the back of the net. It was one of five straight goals for Haverford in the quarter. After one, Haverford led 6-2.
  • Although Widener won the opening draw control of the second quarter, it was the Fords who were hot on offense. Haverford scored seven in a row, which was part of a larger 12-0 from the first quarter. With under six minutes left in the half, Reeser subbed in at goal for Rosini. Reeser would make two saves on free-position shots before the Pride scored with 13 seconds remaining. Scott scored her first goal, and DeHaven picked up her second assist. The score was 13-3 Haverford at the half.
  • The Pride were aggressive in the early stages of the third quarter. They recorded three straight shots in a one-minute stretch, despite the shots being off-target. Following a successful clear, Scott scored her second goal off a Krohn dime. The Pride picked up a few caused turnovers and saves in the waning minutes of the third, but the Fords were up 15-4 through three.
  • Both teams saw a turnover to start the fourth quarter before Haverford struck again with a goal. Although the Pride made a solid effort to get shots up, they were not finding the back of the net. The Pride scored two goals in the final four minutes. Alyssa Ruggiero scored the first, and Scott completed the hat trick with the other goal. Haverford won 18-6.
