2/22/2024 3:25:00 PM

CHESTER, Pa. – After taking down the York College Spartans in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinal, Widener women's basketball is going to the MAC Commonwealth Championship. They will take on the #1 seed Messiah University Falcons on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. in Grantham, Pa.

Both Widener and Messiah are 22-4 on the season. However, Widener is 11-3 in conference play. Messiah is 13-1.

The Falcons have been dominant as usual. Two of their losses came against opponents ranked in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll. They had an 11-game winning streak this season that was snapped by the Pride.

The Pride and Falcons split the season series at one game apiece. Messiah won in Grantham 75-64, and Widener won 56-50 in Chester.

The last time these two teams faced off, on Feb. 7, Jordan D'Ambrosio led the Pride with 18 points. Mary McFillin had eight points, five rebounds, and five steals.

In the Messiah game in Grantham, Mia Robbins had 20 points and nine rebounds. Gianna Samuels had 10 points and three steals.

With their win on Feb. 7, the Pride snapped a five-game losing streak to Messiah, dating back to Feb. 2022.

The winner of this game will be heading to the NCAA Tournament, since the conference has automatic qualifiers. The runner-up has a chance for an at-large bid, though. The women's basketball selection show will be on Monday, Feb. 26 at 2:30 p.m. on ncaa.com.

MAC Commonwealth Championship gear can be purchased here.

Tickets prices are as follows: $8 (adults), $6 (senior citizens 65+), and $6 (youth 7-17). MAC students with ID and children six and under with an adult get in for free.
