2024 Football Campaign Comes to an End Against Muhlenberg

Baxter to Hostetter pass scores only Pride touchdown

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Widener Football's 2024 campaign comes to a close against Centennial's number one Muhlenberg on a chilly afternoon.
 
The 34-7 loss will give the Pride a 5-6 overall record and will end the MAC season with a 5-4 record.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Jeff Chaplin led the Pride with 192 passing yards.
  • Isaac Hostetter threw once for the 58 yards and a touchdown.
  • On the ground, Bryce Casey would rush for 22.
  • Zach Vanscovich had five receptions for 71 yards.
  • Defensively, Luke Shaeffer totaled 10 tackles with one being a tackle for loss and a had a breakup.
  • The Pride netted 275 offensive yards while allowing 500.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride opened the game with the ball and was quickly stopped after a first down. Chaplin's 19-yard pass to Vanscovich would help move the chains. Tackles on the proceeding series from Shaeffer, Luke Shimko, and Kyle Jones would help force a Mules punt to keep the game scoreless. The Pride would chew 10 minutes off the clock to end the first deadlocked at zero. Chaplin would help flip the field with passes to Vanscovich and Hostetter while Casey helped on the group with a 15-yard run.
  • The Mules defense stood tall to start the second and would help the offense score on the next possession. Chaplin and the Pride took over at the 14:33 mark to try and answer. A long Mules drive 12:01 would chew clock in the second while the Pride defense tried to make a stop. The Pride would force a field goal to make the score 10-0. The half would end with the Pride 13-0.
  • A greater portion of the third quarter would show the Mules offense in a rhythm while the Pride struggled out of the locker room. Towards the later part of the quarter the Pride would take a three-minute series to punch six on the board. Chaplin started the drive at the WID28 and would show a trick play from Hostetter. Hostetter would get a shot down field with a 58-yard ball to Baxter. Ryan Pattison capped off the drive with a good point after to make the score 27-7.
  • A Mules drive to being their offensive series in the fourth began in the Pride's favor. Malachi Stinnett came up big with a forced fumble to allow Joshua Salter to snag the open ball. A long back and forth series for both sides would show defensive strongs as both would come with turnovers. The Pride would end with a few Dalton Wickel rushes as the season came to and end with a 34-7 loss in the Centennial-MAC Bowl.
