Three Men’s Basketball Players See Double Digits in Win Over Alvernia

Daulerio, DiCaro, and Dunn register double digit scoring

READING, Pa. – Widener Men's Basketball moves to a three-game win streak after a dominating win over the Alvernia Golden Wolves.
 
The 86-65 win moves the Pride to 13-2 in season play and 3-1 in the MAC Commonwealth. 
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Dominic Dunn and Matt Daulerio co-led the Pride with 13 points.
  • Kevin Schenk snagged six rebounds.
  • Defensively, Steven Matlack would block two Golden Wolves shots and Dunn would steal twice.
  • The Pride shot 48.6% from the field and 42.3% from beyond the arc.
  • The Pride's bench saw 46 points and out rebounded the Golden Wolves 47-28. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • In the second road game of the season, the Pride opened behind. Kevin Schenk was quick to score and dig into the lead with a good jumper. A steal and a couple rebounds from Dominic Dunn and Howie Rankine would let Anthony DiCaro drain a triple to the game. A long stretch of missed shots from the Pride offense was ended with Luke Mazur hitting a jumper with 14:32 on the clock. The Pride would start their string of scoring as Mike Kane hit a layup and then took the lead with a triple shortly after. With under halfway the Golden Wolves hung close but DiCaro retook the lead with a triple to start a 10-0 run to take control of the first half. The score was 31-20 Pride with 5:16 remaining. In the final minute of the half, Matt Daulerio would drain a triple from deep then hit a layup while Steven Matlack snagged an offensive rebound with a quick put back to score. The Pride headed into half up 46-28.
  • Right out of the gate, Daulerio put up a good layup to start the second. Rankine drained a triple pushing the run to 5-0. Xavier Ernest cashed in on a pair of free throws to push the lead to 23. An offensive slow stretch allowed to Golden Wolves to creep back, but DiCaro put up a good layup to let the Pride call timeout with just under 14 minutes left in regulation. As the halfway mark hit, Dunn popped a steal and cashed in on a fast break layup. Jay-Nelly Reyes saw his first points of the game on a good jumper with 8:22 left. With 2:41 on the clock, Myles Bright pushed the Pride over the 80-point barrier with a good triple. Ernest and Reyes capped off the Pride scoring with two layups to give the Blue and Gold their 13th win with a final 86-65 win. 
UP NEXT
Widener returns to the Schwartz Center on Wednesday evening for a Jan.17 matchup against the Messiah Falcons. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
