CHESTER, Pa. - Head Field Hockey Coach Melissa McCarthy announced the addition of Olivia Sims to the 2023 field hockey coaching staff.
"I am very pleased to welcome Olivia to our coaching staff for the 2023 season," said Coach McCarthy. "Olivia was a tremendous athlete for Cabrini with a noticeable passion for the game; someone that I scouted for many years! Her education background, leadership skills, and NCAA tournament playing experience will translate well onto the playing field for our group. I look forward to mentoring her and watching her grow as a collegiate coach. She has a very bright future ahead!"
Sims recently spent four years with Cabrini University and played midfield for the Cavaliers, with her 2020 season being cut due to COVID-19. In those three seasons, she amassed 14 assists and averaged over 1000 minutes played per season. Named a team captain in her junior and senior year, Sims also received All-Atlantic East team honors for three seasons in 2019, 2021, and 2022. She was also named Atlantic East Conference Rookie of the Year in 2019. Sims earned honors in Division III Field Hockey National Academic Squad and Division III Field Hockey Scholar of Distinction for her success as a student-athlete.
In the classroom, Sims excelled being named to the National Society of Leadership and Success, as well as making President's and Dean's list.
Outside of athletics, Sims currently is a volunteer at Camden County Miracle League. Beginning in September of 2016, she taught basic mechanics of baseball to community members with developmental and physical disabilities aged 6-40. She also attended organization meetings to better understand organizational logistics and fundraising. In addition to this, Sims has experience as a childcare professional. Since January of 2021, she has worked with young children ages 2 and 3 and created innovative and educational games that helped to advance both children's reading abilities and math skills for homework. Sims has also worked as an intern from November of 2018 to April of 2019 with the Magnolia School District. There, she assisted with 1st, 4th, and 8th Grade Classrooms concentrating on language arts education. Sims also acted as an Occupational Therapist assisting a special education student in a classroom setting. She also gained experience by consulting with educational professionals on career paths in education.
