Widener Women’s Cross Country Set for Another Historic Season

7/19/2023 2:00:00 PM

CHESTER, Pa. – Head Women's Cross Country Coach Logan Stroman announced Widener's 2023 schedule.

Among the returning is two MAC All-Conference players. These include First Team MAC All-Conference and USTFCCCA Women of the Year Gabby Nye and Second Team MAC All-Conference Jaden Sweely. The Pride will continue to be led by Coach of the Year Logan Stroman and Assistant Coach Mike Ambrulavage.

"I am excited to get our season started" said Coach Logan Stroman. "We are coming off the best season in program history, so we have quite a lot to live up to. We graduated three of our top four from last season but we had a lot of the underclassmen step up over the track season. We welcome back three All-Region runners, Chris Tran, and Kathryn Long who ran great 10ks in the spring. Also, don't be surprised when you see our other sophomores step up for the challenge ahead."

The Pride's campaign is set to begin on September 9 at Lebanon Valley. The following weekend, Widener will race at a new invitational this season named the Main Line Invitational. To wrap up September, the Blue and Gold head to Lehigh's Paul Short Run where they placed first last year in team standings, ran home with a plethora of personal bests, and gained team confidence against some of the top teams in the region.

October will feature the last meet of the season just over the New Jersey border. On October 14, the Pride will take on the Inter-Regional Border Battle hosted by Rowan in final preparation for the conference championships.

The MAC Championships "is going to be a challenge. We did well last year at LVC but being at Misericordia is going to be a more difficult course." Conference Championships will be held on October 28 and will have strong showings from Misericordia "as well as LVC and DeSales who were 3rd and 4th last season. Following the MAC Championships, the NCAA Regional meet will be hosted by Rowan on November 11 and the NCAA Championship will follow the next weekend in Carlisle, Pa.
