7/13/2023 12:00:00 PM

CHESTER, Pa. – Head Women's Soccer Coach Melissa Franks announced Widener's 2023 schedule which includes eight home games on Hirschmann Field. The Pride return after a 9-7-4 (4-3-1 MAC Commonwealth) last Fall.

Among the returning is all five MAC All-Conference players. These include First Team MAC All-Conference Alyssa Carman, Second Team MAC All-Conference Niamh Sweeney, and Honorable Mention MAC All-Conference Samantha Coon, Madison Forte, and Emily Midura. In addition to the returning, the Pride welcome six first years.

"I am really excited for this upcoming season" said Coach Melissa Franks. "We have an experience group returning who are motivated to continue to grow and an incoming class who are ready to make an impact. Most importantly, I'm just counting down the days until we get back on the field with everyone to prepare for this season. We will have a few new coaches in the conference and I'm excited to see what they can do with their teams. Our schedule is going to be challenging as always, but we believe we need to play the best to be the best. Being prepared for conference play starts with the teams we play in September."

The Pride's campaign kicks off on September 1 with four neutral site games. To open the season, Widener will see the Landmark Conference Champions Scranton and then jump to regionally ranked NYU on September 8. On September 27, the Pride will host the Swarthmore Garnet who made a run in the Centennial Conference Tournament last fall and look to knock out a top 50 team.

October will feature a "competitive MAC Commonwealth play where every game will be a battle this season." The month will begin with a trip to Grantham, Pa. to play the reigning Commonwealth Champions Messiah on the 7th. The Pride open their October month at home on October 10 as they host Delaware Valley in a conference switchover game and quickly turn around to play Hood who they knocked off twice last season. The Blue and Gold will close out conference play on October 28 when they travel to Alvernia.

The MAC Commonwealth Conference Tournament will begin on November 1 with a semifinal game and will conclude on Saturday November 4 with the championship.
