READING, Pa. – After a rain delay over the weekend that pushed back the start of the playoffs, the Pride enter the postseason as the third seed in the conference. They will be on the road versus the Alvernia University Golden Wolves on Saturday and Sunday for a three-game series.
Widener finished the regular season with a 21-18 record (15-9 MAC Commonwealth). The Pride enter their series with Alvernia with five wins in their last six. To conclude the regular season, they won two of three games against the York College Spartans.
Alvernia saw a 25-15 record for the season (15-9 MAC Commonwealth). The Golden Wolves ended their regular season by getting swept by the top-seeded Lebanon Valley Dutchmen. Two of the three games versus Lebanon Valley were home games for Alvernia.
The Pride and the Golden Wolves faced each other three times this season, with Alvernia taking two of the three games. Widener hosted on March 17, where they lost 7-4. When Alvernia hosted the next day, the Golden Wolves won 2-1 and lost 11-5.
Widener's stars were on full display this season.
Andrew Yates led the Pride with a .398 batting average. Yates had 23 runs, and a team-leading 49 hits and 35 RBIs. He had 48 putouts on defense.
Kyle Brex also put together a nice senior season. Brex batted .351 on a team-high 131 at-bats. He was second on the team in runs (33), hits (46), and doubles (13). He also led the team with four triples. Brex had 49 putouts on defense.
The winner of this series will advance to the Conference Finals in a three-game series versus Lebanon Valley, Messiah, or York. The series will be held from May 12-13.
