YORK, Pa. – In a rescheduled game following Saturday's rain storm, the Widener softball team fell 9-1 to the York Spartans.
Following the loss, the Pride move to 15-22 in the regular season and 3-10 in MAC Commonwealth play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AT SPARTAN STADIUM
Bella Walker was the sole scorer of the game for the Pride. Pride register two hits from
Becca Tiley and Walker.
A fast top of the first inning for the Pride left Tiley and
Katelyn Tong on base after Tiley hit a double to left center and Tong was hit by a pitch. The Pride defense tried to hold strong but the Spartans found a all nine of their runs in the bottom of the first.
The succeeding innings for both sides were quiet as the Pride defense kept the Spartans quiet.
Jalia Lawrence became the first Pride runner on base since the beginning of the game after finessing four balls off Natalie Rietema. Tiley continued steal pitches as she walked to put two Pride runners on base.
In the top of the fourth, Walker opened with a single to short to get things going for the Pride.
Mikayla Fedele walked to advance Walker as runners were on first and second with no outs.
Leah DiGiandomenico took a hit by a pitch to load the bases.
Jill Gray then reached on a fielder's choice to score Walker for the first Pride run. The Pride would end the inning with three left on base.
A little run from the Spartans was halted short as the Pride kept one on base and only allowed two hits. In the top of the fifth, Tiley was hit by a pitch to try and save the score. Unfortunately, the next three batters were a quick 1-2-3 as the Pride fell 9-1 to the Spartans.
