HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST IMMACULATA
Game 1
Bella Walker,
Eliana Guerrieri, and
Leah DiGiandomenico had one run each. Four players tied for one hit each.
Jill Gray, who got the start on the mound, allowed one hit and three runs.
The Pride and the Mighty Macs exchanged runs in the first inning. An RBI double by Immaculata put them on the board first.
Sam McCarthy was walked in the bottom of the first with bases loaded, which tied the game. However, Immaculata struck out the final two batters of the inning. With two women on base in the top of the second, the visitors scored two runs on a Widener error. Even with two runners on base for the Pride in the bottom of the second, no runs were scored. The Pride would play good defense in the third. The bases were loaded for Immaculata, but a strikeout ended their rally. A sac-fly by
Mikayla Fedele cut into the deficit in the bottom of the third. Widener trailed 3-2 after three.
Similar to the third, the Pride prevented any runs scored on a bases-loaded scenario in the top of the fourth. But, Immaculata blew open the deficit in the fifth, scoring five runs. A walk with bases loaded scored one run. An RBI single and a Widener error brought in two runs each to make the score 8-2. Both teams got a run in the sixth. Another error by the Pride allowed the Mighty Macs to score, but the Pride answered with a
Kaylin Johnson RBI single. Needing a run in the seventh, Widener fell to Immaculata on a final fly-out. The Mighty Macs won game one 9-3.
Game 2
Jalia Lawrence led with three runs and three hits.
Caitlyn Katchur went all six innings on the mound, allowing just one run and striking out three batters.
Widener began the second game with three straight groundouts on defense. They would score three runs in the bottom of the first to build on that momentum. An RBI groundout and a two-run RBI single brought in the runs. A quick second inning segued into the third, where the Pride had two runners on base. However, a fly-out ended the inning. The Pride led 3-0 through three.
Widener put up two runs in the fourth inning to further their advantage. An RBI double and an RBI single consecutively made the score 5-0. The Pride played good defense in the top of the fifth. Immaculata would leave two runners on base as a Widener groundout retired the Mighty Macs. Although Immaculata scored a run in the top of the sixth on an RBI groundout, the Pride put the game away in the bottom of the sixth. It was on a mercy rule. An Immaculata error gave the Pride two runs. Then, with bases loaded, DiGiandomenico smacked a walk-off grand slam. Widener won 11-1 in six innings. They won one of two games for the afternoon.
