CHESTER, Pa. – In the Pride's regular-season home finale, they dedicated their Wednesday doubleheader as "Strike Out Cancer Night." Widener lost to Lebanon Valley 9-5 in the first game. However, Widener led 3-2 in the second game before it was suspended due to the weather.
The Pride are 15-21 in the regular season. They are 3-9 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST LEBANON VALLEY
Jalia Lawrence put up two runs.
Kaylin Johnson had two hits in four at-bats. Widener's pitchers allowed 13 hits and nine runs.
The Pride were the first to score, as they got two runs in the bottom of the first. With bases loaded,
Bella Walker's two-run RBI single put them in the lead. The two sides showcased their offenses in the second inning. Lebanon Valley scored four runs, while Widener scored three. Two RBI doubles and a Widener error allowed the Dutchmen to lead 4-2. In the bottom of the second,
Becca Tiley hit a three-run RBI double to go up 5-4. The third inning saw no runs come in for either side. Although Widener had a runner on third base, a strikeout ended the inning. The Pride led 5-4 through three.
A quiet fourth inning shifted into the top of the fifth. The Dutchmen tied the game on a solo home run. A few batters later, play was suspended on a lightning delay. Once the delay was over, Lebanon Valley put the game away. They loaded the bases and scored their second run of the inning on a hit-by-pitch. Lebanon Valley would add to their lead on a two-run RBI single and a fielder's choice. The Pride played good defense in the top of the sixth by leaving a Lebanon Valley runner on base. However, the Dutchmen retired the Pride on a groundout in the bottom of the seventh. Lebanon Valley won the first game 9-5.
UP NEXT
The Pride will be back in action on Friday at 4:30 p.m. to take on the York College Spartans. This is the make-up game from Saturday, where the Pride and the Spartans could not finish both games due to the weather.
Note: Since Lebanon Valley and Widener are conference rivals, the suspended second game from Wednesday will be finished another day. The date and time have yet to be determined.
