Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Conference Opponent Messiah

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. - The Widener women's lacrosse team came up short in a road game against MAC conference opponent Messiah.

The Pride lost to the Falcons 6-14, and currently hold a 10-6 overall record and a 5-2 conference record.  

BY THE NUMBERS 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

Jamie DeHaven scored the first goal of the game four minutes into the first period. Capitalizing off a free-position shot, Messiah scored goal of their own to tie the score 1-1. Clark Trowbridge found a way to score back to back goals and held the lead for the next seven minutes. With 1:07 remaining in the first period, the Falcons scored to tie the score 3-3 heading into the second period. 

Chloe Mingioni got the offense started in the second with a goal with 11:12 on the clock. Less than a minute later, Messiah found the back of the net to tie the score at 4-4. The two teams battled back and forth and then, with 3:50 remaining in the half, the Falcons scored three goals and took a seven goals lead. Play became suspended just as halftime was approaching due to thunder and lightining. Following resume of play with 0:54 remaining, Catherine Scott found a way to score and add a goal to the Widener score. The Falcons scored a last minute buzzer-beater to end the half and the two teams head into halftime with the score in favor of the Falcons, 8-5. 

Both teams came out of halftime ready to play which caused a scoreless eight minute period. Messiah went on to brake the scoring draught with a goal at 7:45 on the clock. Six scoreless possession went by and with 0:16 left in the third period, Katie Ward found the back of the net to finish the third with a score of 9-6. 

The fourth period appeared to be a challenge for the Pride as they were unable to stop the Messiah offense who went on to score five goals. The Pride drop the match to Messiah 6-14 and walk away with a loss. 

UP NEXT 

The Pride is back home next Saturday as they play their last regular season game against MAC Commonwealth opponent York. Gametime is set for 1 p.m.
