Patrick Carolan Highlighted at the 2023 Danny Curran Invitational

CHESTER, Pa. – Patrick Carolan was awarded the Danny Curran Award from his performances over his collegiate career.
 
The Danny Curran Award is presented to a senior who, during their time at Widener, has not only had major improvements in running, but exemplified leadership and camaraderie.
 
TRACK
 
First year Alex Stempin opened his outdoor season with a personal best in the 400-meter dash from his 52.37 second sprint. Stempin's time earned him MAC qualification.
 
In the 800-meter race, Josh Schreiner was the only Pride member to break the two-minute mark with a 1:59.87 time which would earn him a MAC outdoor qualification.
 
The distance events became a success for the men as Joseph Cardie, Thomas Plunkett, and Gavin Kelly would earn qualifications in the 1500-meter run with Caride leading the pack with a 4:05.82. In the 10,000-meter run which was held on Friday of the meet, Thomas Flear, Patrick Carolan, David Millar and Joseph Nescio all competed and ran under MAC qualification time. Flear, Carolan, and Millar would also earn AARTFC qualifications as well. The pack was led by Flear with a 30:59.16 while Nescio pushed the group from behind with a 34:21.25.
 
The men's 400-meter hurdles consisted of first years Jonathan David and Jacob Grossman. David ran a new personal best with a 58.77 second race while Grossman also set a personal best with his 59.90. Both times would MAC qualifications.
 
FIELD
In the field events, national runner up Alex Kristeller earned himself a 2023 MAC outdoor qualification and AARTFC marks with a 15.17-meter throw in the shot put with David Waters also qualifying with a 14.22-meter throw. Junior Justin Adams earned MAC qualification with his 12.83-meter mark.
 
Kristeller continued his field performance with a sixth ranked MAC throw in the discuss with a 42.16-meter throw.
 
In the hammer throw, Kristeller topped off his field meet with a 63.85-meter throw which would rank him first in the conference standings ahead of Stevenson junior Nathan Williams. Alden Littlefield would just miss the second ranking mark of 59.58-meters with his 58.91-meter mark. Adams and Conrad Howell would also earn MAC and AARTFC qualifications along with Waters qualifying for the conference meet.
 
UP NEXT
Widener will return to the track and field on Saturday, April 8th to compete in the West Chester Golden Rams Invitational. Start time is to be determined.
