Kaylin Johnson,
Mikayla Fedele,
Becca Buckman, and
Bella Walker. They also swept the Albright College Lions, taking the first game 4-1 and the second game 7-3.
The Pride are 14-18 in the regular season. They are 3-7 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALBRIGHT
Game 1
Caitlyn Katchur had two runs. Walker led the way with three hits in three at-bats. Fedele only allowed one hit and one run for all seven innings on the mound.
The Pride had immediate success in the bottom of the first inning, where two walks and a hit-by-pitch forced Albright to change pitchers. The Pride would get one run, courtesy of a
Katelyn Tong RBI on a walk. Following a quiet second inning, both sides went to work in the third inning. In the bottom of the third, the Pride would once again load the bases. An Albright error had put
Leah DiGiandomenico on first base. However, a fly-out on the next play ended the inning. Widener was ahead 1-0 after three.
Despite two Widener errors in the top of the fourth, no runs were scored by the Lions. Albright struggled to keep runners from getting on base in the bottom of the fourth. Even with loaded bases for Widener's offense, Albright recorded a groundout to retire the inning. Widener played a fast top of the fifth before scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Three RBI singles in four batters gave the Pride a three-run lead. Two of those RBIs were hit by seniors Walker and Johnson. Looking for something in the top of the seventh, the Lions avoided a shut-out. With runners on first and third base, Widener got a runner out at second base caught stealing. However, the Lions scored on the play. A groundout finished the game. The Pride won 4-1.
Game 2
Jalia Lawrence led the Pride with two runs. Fedele had two hits. Fedele once again was the winning pitcher, this time by only allowing two runs and two hits.
The Lions continued with their pitching struggles, as they changed pitchers in the first inning. A base-loaded situation scored two runs for Widener. This was from a walk and a hit-by-pitch. A few batters later, Fedele's two-run RBI single brought the advantage to 4-0. Except for the top of the third, where Albright had four batters step up to the plate, each half-inning in the second and third was a short, defensive battle. The third inning ended on a fly-out. Through three, Widener led 4-0.
DiGiandomenico smacked a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to open the deficit even more. The two sides would exchange runs in the fifth. The Lions put themselves on the board with two scores because of an RBI double and an RBI groundout. Meanwhile, an RBI double for Widener gave them one run. Albright copied what they did in the first game by adding one run in the top of the seventh. The first batter homered to bring the deficit to five runs. But, it was not enough. Widener took the second game 7-3. They took both games against their conference rival on Senior Day.
