Bats Were Hot In 10-6 Win Over The Dutchmen

Pride connect with the ball 12 times.

ANNVILLE, Pa.Kyle Brex of Widener baseball found a connection with the ball and bat in a MAC Commonwealth win in the first game of the series against Lebanon Valley.
 
Following the win, the Pride move to 15-16 on the regular season and improve to 9-7 in MAC Commonwealth standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED AT MCGILL FIELD
 
The Pride opened the game quickly with Anthony Boccio hitting a single to right center. Brex followed it up with a single to left center. Andrew Yates hit the team's first RBI of the day with a groundout to first to send Boccio home to put the Pride up one. A Nick Barnez double allowed Brex to score which would end the inning with two runs for the Pride. A quick bottom of the first and top of the second gave the Dutchmen a chance to score in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to one.
 
Brex and Yates helped answer the Dutchmen with runs scoring on a double from Yates and a Barenz single. The score was 4-1 after two. The scoring continued for the Dutchmen as they batted in two runs. Aaron Nuble and Jon Aman opened the top of the fourth with a walk. Brex's hitting continued to get hot with a single up the middle to add an RBI as Nuble scored. The bottom of the inning was a quick 1-2-3 for Curran.
 
The top of the fifth was a hot streak for the Pride with three runs scoring to make the score 8-3. Yates got things started with a double while Barenz headed to first after being hit by a pitch. Fremgen walked to load the bases with no outs. A Stephen Posner walk sent Yates home to score and forced the Dutchmen to make a pitching change. Nuble hit a single to send Barenz home. On a double play Fremgen score to end the scoring for the inning. The Pride saved the inning and left three Dutchmen on base to allow one to score.
 
As innings drew down, Boccio scored to add a run for the Pride. The Blue and Gold opened with two hits and a walk to load the bases once again. On a wild pitch, Boccio scored and advanced everyone. A long bottom of the eighth allowed the Dutchmen to score twice to cut the deficit to 9-6 but the Pride again left three on base. In the final stretch, a triple from Boccio allowed Nuble to score for the final run of the game for the Pride. With the Dutchmen against the ropes, the Pride closed the game out with a double play in the first game of the series.

Widener finishes the three-game series on Saturday, April 15 at home. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
