IMMACULATA, Pa. - The Widener women's lacrosse team picked up a win against Immaculata on the road, out-scoring the Mighty Macs 17-5. The Pride improves their record to 4-3 and remains 0-0 in MAC Commonwealth Conference play.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Eight different Pride players scored a goal against the Mighty Mac defense. Alex Kohrn led the Pride in goals and saw a career high of four. Katie Ward tied with four goals as well.
- Jamie DeHaven scored three goals, Clark Trowbridge scored two, and Chloe Mingioni, Catherine Scott, Annalee Doyle and Lucy Breithaupt each scored one goal.
- Doyle led the Pride in assists with two.
- Pride offense outshot Immaculata 41 shots to their 9 shots and picked up 37 ground balls.
- Widener went 12-12 on clears.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST IMMACULATA
The Pride got off to a quick start as
Alex Krohn scored her first goal of the game off a
Katie Ward assist from a caused turnover by
Annalee Doyle. Widener controlled the ball for the next few minutes and with 5:03 on the clock, Kohrn scored again off a free-position shot. The Mighty Macs quickly answered with their first goal with 3:43 remaining in the quarter and the score at 2-1. Two minutes later,
Katie Ward scored her first goal of the game, unassisted, and a minute later,
Jamie DeHaven found the back of the net for the Blue and Gold, putting the score at 4-1 to finish the first period.
Looking to keep and extend their lead, the Pride offense got cooking a minute and thirty seconds from the start of the second period.
Katie Ward scored from a free-position shot and improved the Pride score to 5-1. The Mighty Macs won the next draw but a caused turnover by Kailey Cristello allowed for a successful clear for the Pride and put
Catherine Scott in scoring position where she found the back of the net with 11:46 on the clock. Less than a minute later,
Annalee Doyle found herself at the arches and scored another free-positon goal for the Pride. With ten minutes remaining in the half, the Pride went on to score five more goals and head into halftime with a 12-2 lead.
Coming out in the third period, the Pride got their offense moving as DeHaven scored another goal, unassisted. Less than a minute later,
Katie Ward scored another goal and the Pride extended their lead to 14-2. With 5:23 remaining,
Lucy Breithaupt scored her first goal of the season from the arches off a free-position attempt. The Mighty Macs answered with their own free-position shot and brought the score to 15-3. Kohrn wrapped up the third period with another goal and Widener finished the third period ahead 16-3.
A goalie change for the Pride took Katie Rosini out after a great three periods in goal and put
Maddie Reeser in to finish the game. Immaculata got the offense started for this period after a successful free-position shot found the back of the net followed by another goal from Kaitlyn Klitchko.
Clark Trowbridge was quick to answer that goal, scoring one of her own, putting the score at 17-5. Both teams went back and forth and finished the game with a final score of 17-5.
