Mike Kane Shines in MAC Crossover as Men’s basketball Downs MAC Freedom Champion Arcadia

Kane sees season high 21 points with five triples

CHESTER, Pa. – The battle of the MAC basketball champions end in a dominating Widener Men's Basketball win as Mike Kane drops 21 points in the Schwartz Center.
 
The dominating 89-63 advances the Pride to 7-1 in the regular season with their only loss coming from currently ranked #2 Hampden-Sydney.
 
BY THE NUMBERS
  • Kane led with 21 points coming off the bench.
  • Anthony DiCaro would add 17 points.
  • Dominic Dunn double-doubled with 16 points, 14 rebounds, and three blocks for a new season high.
  • The Pride would shoot near season high from the floor with 49.1% as the bench added 40 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Pride open hot with a 8-0 run with Kevin Schenk dropping the first points on a layup. DiCaro went on to add the remaining six from two threes before the Knights answered. Dunn added his first seven points to give the Pride a 15-3 lead seven minutes in. With just over five minutes remaining Kane would drain his first three to lead into two more within 40 seconds forcing the Knights to call timeout. Out of the timeout Kane, still hot, hit a jumper in the paint. Heading into half the Pride controlled the game with a 47-30 lead.
  • Out of half, Matt Daulerio stood tall with a block to deny the Knights' first scoring attempt. Kane added another three after a Dunn block and Howie Rankine rebound. The Pride kept pushing a triple from Steven Matlack and a jumper from Kane to push the lead to 20. Under halfway through the second, Jay-Nelly Reyes hit his first three to give extend the lead to 23. A span of a 7-0 run came from a handful off free throws. Keith Gee would see the final three points in the game for the Blue and Gold to end with a 89-63 win over the MAC Freedom champions.
  • The Pride also welcomed back the four graduates (Pat Holden, Kenny Lewis, Peter Gard, and AJ Sawyers) from the 2022-23 season to celebrate the team's season with a Championship Ring ceremony post game.

Widener returns to the court on Saturday, Dec. 9 against the currently ranked #14 Swarthmore Garnet in a 3 p.m. tip-off.
