CHESTER, Pa. – In Widener Men's Basketball's home opener in the Tip-Off for Autism Awareness, the Pride topple King's in the Schwartz Athletic Center.
Following the 105-80 win, the Pride advance to 1-0 on the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
- In 17 minutes of play, Dominic Dunn shoots 6-of-10 from the floor and goes 3-of-5 from the three line.
- Steven Matlack followed with 13 points and a perfect 6-of-6 from the floor.
- Howie Rankine led with seven rebounds and two steals.
- The Pride shot 48.8% from the floor with 52 points in the paint.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pride come out in their season opener hot with an 11-2. Forcing the timeout were two quick dunks from Kevin Schenk. Off the bench, Matt Daulerio would pick up a quick layup point. The Pride hot streak continued as a pull-up three from Dominic Dunn gave the Pride a 28-10 lead halfway through the first.
- A step back jumper from Dunn and an assist from Rankine would extend the lead to 40-19 with 7:37 remaining. Time ticked under two as Mike Kane stole a ball to give Dunn a good three shot. Heading into the half the Pride led 64-31 and shot 56.82% from the floor.
- A new line shift from the Pride would open the half as Matlack snuck in a layup to answer the Monarchs' points. A 9-0 run in the middle of the second would push the lead to 88-49 after a Myles Bright driving layup and Xavier Ernest dish.
- Emmet Kane would drain a three with 1:55 left to push the Pride over 100. Closing out the game was a Sean Mizzoni driving layup to end 105-80. In the second half, the Pride shot 40% from the floor and went a perfect 6-of-6 from the line.
