Widener Men’s Swimming Sweeps Hood and Messiah in a Double Dual Meet

FREDERICK, Md. – Top times in the conference gave Widener Men's Swimming two wins on the road to remain undefeated.
 
In the meet against Hood, the Pride took the meet with a final score of 118-74. Against Messiah, the Pride won with a 169-86 final score.
 
The Pride open the meet strong in the 400-yard medley relay. The quad of Matthew Niro, Dan Jackson, Shane Douthit, and Jadyn Manning took first with a final time of 3:36.70 dominating the rest of the field by 10 seconds.
 
Jason Mongiovi and Gavin Franklin added a 2-3 finish in the 1000 with a 10:37.84 and 11:29.43 respectively.
 
In the 200-yard freestyle, Jackson would out touch Hood's Stowell with a 1:48.44 winning by 0.09 to take a top time in the conference.
 
First year Adam Bailey led a 1-2 charge in the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:11.31 while Pat Rankin finished 0.06 with a 2:11.37. An event later Douthit led another 1-2 charge in the splash and dash 50-yard free. Douthit hit the wall in a 21.94 while Manning finished in a 22.31.
 
Mongiovi took first in the 100-yard free out of the break in a 50.17 while Joshua Cunningham took third in a 50.97. The backstroke specialists took a 1-2-3-4 finish as Niro led with a 2:03.07. Isaiah Moreef, Douthit, and Franklin followed.
 
Jackson picked up his second win of the day in the 200-yard breaststroke in a 2:13.45. A few events later he added a third win in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:02.02.
 
Mongiovi snagged another first 53.83 in the 100-yard butterfly while Manning picked up a third.
 
In the final event of the day, the Pride team of Manning, Douthit, Mongiovi, and Cunningham closed out the meet with another first in the 200-yard freestyle relay. The quad finished in a 1:27.76 to win by five seconds.
