YORK, Pa. – The Widener baseball team took on York in a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader, but unfortunately did not come away with any wins as the Spartans won both games Saturday afternoon at Jacquet Field.
The Pride lost the first game, 27-12, and dropped the nightcap, 10-6. With the losses, the Pride fell to 10-13 on the season and 2-2 in MAC Commonwealth play.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST YORK IN GAME 1
- The Pride were tied with the Spartans at 1 through two innings after Aaron Nuble scored a run in the second inning on a Nick Barenz groundout. However, the Spartans scored 20 runs over the next three innings to take a commanding lead that they would not relinquish.
- The Pride did manage to score eight runs in the top of the ninth, highlighted by Andrew Yates' three-run home run. Brandon Reis and Tommy McParland each had an RBI single in the inning.
- Yates led the Pride at the plate, going 2-for-5. The Pride had 10 players record a hit in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST YORK IN GAME 2
- The Pride fell into a 6-0 hole through four innings and could not come out of it.
- The Pride tried to make a comeback, as they scored two runs in the fifth and two in the eighth to cut the deficit to 7-4. In the fifth, Barenz brought home a run on a sacrifice fly and Jason Morgan had an RBI single. In the eighth, Bryce Fremgen and Stephen Posner hit back-to-back home runs. But, the Spartans added three runs in the home half of the eighth to take a 10-4 advantage.
- The Pride tried to make one more rally by scoring two runs in the ninth after Barenz hit an RBI triple and scored on a Morgan groundout. However, the Spartans got the final out of the inning to win the game.
- Matt Samson led the Pride at the dish, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Fremgen added two hits in the loss.

The Pride will return to Chester to host Lebanon Valley on Tuesday in another MAC Commonwealth contest. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
