CHESTER, Pa .- The Widener baseball team came away with a split against Stevenson in its MAC Commonwealth doubleheader on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the Widener University baseball field.
The Pride came back from an 6-3 loss in the first game to earn a convincing 23-7 victory in the nightcap against the Mustangs.
The Pride are now 19-15 on the season and are 8-4 in MAC Commonwealth play. The Pride are in a tie for second in the MAC Commonwealth with Stevenson.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST STEVENSON IN GAME 2
- Trailing, 2-1, through two innings, the Pride's offense got hit by scoring 22 of their 23 runs from the third through eighth innings. The Pride tied their season-high for runs in a game.
- The Pride received quality hitting from Bryce Fremgen, Justin Costanzo, Matt Samson, Jason Morgan, Kyle Brex, Austin Oliver, Aaron Nuble, Nick Barenz, and Gabe Franczyk, who each had two or more hits in the game.
- Fremgen and Oliver had four RBIs apiece, while Costanzo drove in three runs, and Samson and Barenz knocked in two runs.
- Joey Norton picked up the win on the mound, allowing only three earned runs on five hits for his third victory of the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST STEVENSON IN GAME 1
- The Pride went back and forth against the Mustangs in the first five innings. After Stevenson scored a run in the first inning, the Pride tied the Mustangs in the second after Anthony Boccio hit a solo home run. Then, the Pride took a 2-1 lead after Barenz hit an RBI single to bring home Boccio. But, the Mustangs tied the game at 2 with a run in the fifth.
- In the seventh, Stevenson scored three runs to take a 5-2 lead. The Pride got the deficit down to two in the eighth after Nuble scored on a double play, but the Mustangs scored a run in the ninth to seal the win.
- Barenz paced the Pride at the plate, going 2-for-4.
Zachary Coluccio had a great outing in the loss, allowing one two earned runs on eight hits while fanning four in 6 2/3 innings pitched.
- Before the game, the Pride honored and recognized seven seniors — Fremgen, Norton, Samson, Andrew Jaffarian, Kyle Laing, Liam Nihill, and Tommy McParland — for their efforts over the last four years.

The Pride will be back in action Monday when they take on Alverniat in another MAC Commonwealth game at Alvernia. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
