READING, Pa. – Amber Bretz scored a career-high six goals to lead the Widener women's lacrosse team past Alvernia, 10-6, in MAC Commonwealth action on Wednesday night at Alvernia University.
With the win, the Pride improved to 9-5 on the season and 4-1 in conference play. The Pride are currently in a three-way tie for second in the MAC Commonwealth standings with Messiah and Stevenson.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ALVERNIA
- Holding a 5-4 lead at halftime, the Pride came out in the third quarter and scored four goals to increase their advantage to 9-4 before going on to win by four. Bretz led the charge, scoring three of her six goals in the period to surpass her previous career high of five goals, which she had done three times this season. Gab Cohen also scored one of her three goals in the quarter.
- Bretz finished the game with seven points after also handing out one assist and had a game-high nine draw controls. The senior midfielder now has 230 draw controls for her career.
- With her three goals, Cohen notched her 12th career hat trick for the Pride. Clark Trowbridge also had a goal for the Pride.
- The Pride saw goalie Maddie Medve Medve make 12 saves on the day and scoop up a team-high seven ground balls.
