CHESTER, Pa. - Seniors
Amber Bretz and
Gab Cohen combined to score eight goals while leading the Widener women's lacrosse team to a convincing 16-3 victory over Arcadia in its season opener on Wednesday night at Edith R. Dixon Field.
Bretz flung in a game-high five goals, while Cohen had three to record a hat trick for the Pride.
HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST ARCADIA
- The Pride trailed, 2-0, with 3:27 left in the first quarter, but managed to tie it at 2 with 1:15 remaining after Bretz scored her first goal and first-year Clark Trowbridge followed with her first career goal.
- In the second quarter, the Pride put in five goals to give them a 7-2 halftime lead. Cohen gave the Pride a 3-2 lead with her first goal of the game, then Bretz and Katie Ward each scored two goals to help Widener earn its five-goal advantage.
- The Pride found the back of the net five more times in the third period to give them a 12-2 advantage and start a running clock heading into the fourth. Bretz and Cohen had two goals apiece and Catherine Scott added one in the period.
- Annalee Doyle also had two goals for Widener in the win.
- Maddie Medve made eight saves for the Pride to pick up a win in net.
UP NEXT
The Pride will hit the road Saturday to take on Swarthmore in a non-conference game. Game time is set for noon.
