ANNVILLE, Pa.- Widener men's soccer coach
Ross Liberati has been named MAC Commonwealth Men's Soccer Coach of the Year for the 2022 season, the conference announced on Friday.
Liberati has been head coach of Widener men's soccer for two seasons and helped guide the Pride to the MAC Commonwealth Championship this year. The Pride entered the tournament as the number two seed, the first time being ranked at number two since 2015. Finishing the season with an 11-6-2 record, the Pride saw one of its best seasons this year.
Liberati, in his first year, mentored a significant shift in the culture of the men's soccer program that led to 11 wins, the highest total for the team since 2014. Widener also competed in its first postseason tournament in five years, advancing to the semifinals of the ECAC Division III Championship.
This year, the Pride found themselves in the 2022 MAC Commonwealth Championship tournament and faced no.1 Messiah in the final game. Six of Liberati's Pride players earned All-MAC honors this season.
